Verona views

We bought a Verona Card so we could visit many of the historic sights in a cost effective way, but rather than show more pictures of churches, I'll share some of the sights that I liked- the ordinary things really that are special because of where they are, Italy!

The Lamberti Tower, which we climbed up.
Mama Shiva where are your oil paint sticks?

Love

This place is tourist central and the hot attraction is Giulietta's casa. The tunnel like entry to the courtyard is full of love messages.
And people making heart shapes!
This is the house and famous balcony plus there is a gate with love locks. Just buy one from the shop next door.
And a bit gross are the chewing gum pieces used for messages. They are plastered over the walls and the trunk of a vine and hold the papers in place also.

When we were in the house a bride arrived amidst much clapping. The wedding was inside the house, followed by much clapping!
She was overcome with the emotion and used a satin handkerchief supplied by the groom.

Verona

Welcome to Verona where we are staying in this building. Our window is the top right hand corner one, with 1 green wooden shutter open.
Loved the colour of this door. The buildings here have lovely balconies, colours, old frescos and window treatment.

Floor mosaics

These floor mosaics were found when digging was underway for an underground garage. They are now beautifully preserved and open to the public in the Domus of Stone Carpets under a church in Ravenna. This is the Dance of the Spirits of the Seasons.
This was a large house and each room had a different floor patterning. Many designs are familiar to us today as patchwork patterns.

In the streets

Interesting way to move a group of toddlers. Kisses and waves for us too.
Great Ravenna colours.
Beautiful fruit display, but don't touch. We bought 2 pears here and I forgot myself and handled the fruit only to be reminded!

Dante's tomb

This is a very popular spot to visit. Join me inside with a group of noisy, enthusiastic school children.
It's a small space inside but we all got our photos.
And outside, next door, in a quiet space inside the interesting fence is the burial mound covered in vibrant ivy.

Ravenna dinner

Enjoyed a dinner in a local enoteca that was very atmosphere with dark wood panels, long tables and lots of people eating.
Before and after- a Russian tour group.
Cin cin!
Capannetti pasta, like ravioli, filled with cheese and a meat ragu for me and pasta for Bob too.

Galla Placidia

The ceiling is a starry night. Galla Placidia reigned over the Western Roman Empire and had this mausoleum build for herself in the middle of the 5th century. Her son is also interned here.
The window slabs of marble filter the light.
