How do you go about auditioning fabrics for a design? I get out every fabric I have that may work and spread them out on my tiled floor. Taking a photo allows me to see if my choices are working. Then a process of elimination begins. Remembering to use dark, medium and light values brings the design to life.

Remember to look at your selection in both daylight and nightlight - things can change a bit. I once had a wonderful murky pond-green piece of fabric that I eventually gave away because the fabrics it seemed to go with in daylight didn't work at night and v.v. It was very frustrating as I loved the colour and was into very coloured things at the time - nowadays I could find ways to use it with more muted palettes ... but anyway its gone now ... I just got sick of taking it out and putting it back.
ReplyDeleteyes, lighting makes such a difference to shades and colour selection Alison. Love a bit of murky anything these days!
DeleteI'm on the brink of using these same colors!
ReplyDeleteThey are a great combination Ellen. I was using a monochromatic palette so couldn't throw in any pink!
