Integrate/Disintegrate

The Broadstrokes group are part of the Language of Nature exhibition with a book, 'Integrate/Disintegrate' made of pages using materials that were bundled together and hung in trees or buried. The pages have been put into book form by Tricia and are in alphabetical surname order.
L-R Merody Buglar, Sue Dennis
The middle section of my pages. The skeleton leaves are stitched in place on hand made spinifex paper from Mt Isa. The paper that I buried was returned to the earth, but this paper was in the hung bundles.

And this one by Tricia. The exhibition continues until Nov 14, 10am- 4pm.

The Language of Nature #2

No, this was not part of the exhibition, but was how I started the day, with a Mortal Sin and coffee! A clever name for a cake, I thought and so delicious too, mainly mousse layers.
Tricia is set up in the Richard Randall studio space. We found my flower square, one of many on the 11 panels of this collaborative project.
It was so interesting to see the artist books and other projects from the year of Tricia's residency. Will share more tomorrow.

The Language of Nature

I'm going to the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens today to visit Tricia Smout at her exhibition 'The Language of Nature'. Tricia has been the artist in residence at the gardens for the year and has had many collaborations with groups and individuals. Her exhibition is at the Richard Randall Art Studio.

Focus on Nature project

Tricia Smout is the Artist-in-Residence at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Cootha and has a number of projects that you can be part of, with minimum effort and maximun reward for you and Tricia. Focus on Nature is the project that requires you to e-mail a digital  image close-up of a plant or plant related item. I'm going out to my garden today to snap some photos and send 1 on to Tricia as the deadline is September 30.
These lovely plants are in Mary's garden. The other project is the A-I-R ENVELOPE and further details are on Tricia's blog.
Welcome to a couple of new blog readers; it's nice to feel connected to a world wide community through blogging.

Australia Day

Happy Australia Day to Aussies everywhere. I stayed up watching the Australian Open Tennis last night while stitching the facing on 'Fiesta de los Muertos'. Beading to follow. These are in progress photos of the quilt taken during the artist-in-residency in Texas, last November.

Oak Sunshine

This is a view of some printed fabric pieces on the design wall at the Franch, where I was artist in residence last November. I'm happy to say I have finished 'Oak Sunshine' 19 3/4" w x 29" long.
It is still work in progress in this photo. I'm hoping to get lots of stitching completed in January during the annual Summer break in Australia.

Proof

While out deer spotting at the Franch, I was captured on the wildlife camera. Thanks for proof of place, Karey. This was my last ramble around the property & I spent some time watching the squirrels scamper around in the woods. The most I saw of the very alert deer were their white tails held high in the air & disappearing fast!

Home

I am safely back on home soil- very damp soil, as it has rained all weekend & weeks while I was away. Garden is in growth heaven. Thanks for the well wishes for my journey, which took more than 24 hours from La Grange to Brisbane by car & plane & waiting in terminals.
Some of my favourite views at the Franch.

AiR #17

I begin the long flight home today, but will continue to share some of the experiences from the States with you. It has been a time for many enjoyable 'firsts', wonderful people, new friends, great food & fond memories.
Farewell Windy Hill Lane.

AiR #15

All Around the Block is another quilt shop in Giddings. Worth the trip for the fabric selection, threads & friendly service from Janice & Phyllis, who recommended Reba's Deli for lunch.

Tasty  Broccoli Cheese soup & a half  flat bread Duke [steak sandwich]. Food names are another language here, but I'm not starving! Martha, glad you're enjoying my posts. Suzanne, I know you'll have a great  US holiday.

AiR #14

We have had a Northern cold snap, an indication of the season to come. It is surprising for me, from sub-tropical Brisbane, Queensland to see the sudden change in the foliage relate to the weather.
Most of the Cottonwood leaves have fallen [ photo above was taken 2 weeks ago] & this bird's nest has no sign of activity.

AiR #13

I hope Thanksgiving was all you wanted it to be.  Here at the 'Franch', which comes from a combination of farm & ranch, not French Provincial as I had previously blogged, the table was beautifully decorated with a turkey centrepiece, red & orange Fall colours.
Roast turkey, dressing [stuffing], mashed potato, asparagus, string beans & bacon, cranberry jello salad, devilled egg, sweet corn casserole, beetroot, cranberry jelly, celery with cream cheese & pecan- all delicious. Pies for dessert. Thanks Karey, Maurice  & family, for a lovely first Thanksgiving.

AiR #9

Yesterday's sunset was followed by a spectacular, rising full moon over the paddocks & an unwelcome visitor in the studio.

AiR #8

A trip to Giddings for supplies took me up a country road, past the airfield, to Gerline's Quilt Shoppe which was easy to spot.
A group of quilters were shopping for fabric, happily discussing various colour combinations, spread out on the counter.

AiR #7

Some signs I need to share with you. Yes Jan, the trees here are covered in  'Old Man's Beard' or  is it 'Spanish Moss'? Probably known by lots of names.
