Opal Fever at Emerald

Emerald Patchwork & Quilting Group have great club rooms with many wide tables for sewing & designing. Cutting tables, raised to the right height are down the back & a small kitchenette finishes the setup.

At the end of day 2, the students proudly display their work from the Opal Fever workshop. Close to Emerald are gem fields where sapphires & other semi-precious stones can be found.

Andra chose to use a mix of bright commercial print & hand dyed fabric. The variety of her small opals is cut from the wings & abdomens of printed insects.

Emerald

Emerald at 7am as I step out to cross the road to go for breakfast. It did get busier around 8am.

I love the Western sky, the vast expanse of blue & the wonderful cloud formations.

Peggy & Bev's Place

My hostess Kathie took me on a tour of the Emerald fabric & sewing machine shops, of which there are 3 in town, all specialising in everything a quilter could need. Meet Peggy of Peggy & Bev's Place, a patchwork shop full of delicious colour! They are on Hospital Road.

Emerald was established in 1879 as a base for the building of the Western Railway & is now a hub for the cattle, agricultural & mining industries. The first & only set of traffic lights in town are being installed!

Flying to Emerald

It was a wet day in Brisbane when I followed the path to board the plane to Emerald.

As we started to descend for landing & got below the cloud the views were inspiring.

It was wet at the Emerald end also.
