Hope

Hope is known for the wood sculptures made by chainsaw, that dot the main streets. An old town with an interesting mining, railway, timber history we stopped briefly.

Alberta neighbourhood

Alberta is an artsy area of Portland with lots of galleries, murals and eateries.
Making friends with this giant beaver.
Free clothing and shoes for those in need.

Midori Spring

The serene face of Midori Spring by Ann Fleming[?] in a Hood River park.
Her outstretched hands hold white doves.

Beach art

The playground at  Wellington Point had these interesting 'counting' stepping stones with ceramic sea creatures set into the pebble base.
To me it was beach art for the kids and parents to enjoy.
The fish were my favourite although it was hard to decide as I loved the individual variations on each creature.

Profane and the profound

Various posters on billboards have caught our attention and here are a few we have photographed.
And this outside a chocolate shop. We have seen many signs like this announcing road works, with invisible workers, on the motorways.

Public art

Does public art gladden your soul? I love it; it makes me pause, look, think, admire, question, smile, enjoy, frown all valid responses depending on what I am looking at. Sorry no names for these 2 found in Canberra, but I was really drawn to the nature of the material as well as the design.

And this is glorious too!

Public art

These multi faceted gems sit outside the Grey Street entrance to the Convention Centre at Southbank. I have often driven by and wondered if the imagery on the surface was made from old linoleum.
It's all a clever mix of scanned images, with old lino in the mix, as well as aerial photos of Brisbane city, as above.

Street art

When in Incheon, South Korea earlier this year, I loved the public art near the hotel.
Even these rubbish bins were interesting!

Fernwood

Most mornings I go into my local Fernwood gym, to wake up & keep fit. Bone density is a health issue for me so I'm diligent to train with weights each week. Osteoporosis affects women & men for various reasons but can be managed for optimum health as we age. This double sided mural art panel is on the corner near the gym.

A change in the weather

The weather forecast this morning was for a cooler change later this week, so a chance to rug up & think of Winter around the corner. It is raining today. We don't have a fireplace in our home, but do enjoy the cosy atmosphere they engender. This one is at Casas de Suenos in Albuquerque New Mexico where we stayed for a few days last October/November. It was so nice to be pampered with breakfast prepared to your liking each morning. I hope you had a lovely Mothers Day yesterday with some pampering.
This outdoor fireplace in Old Town Albuquerque would be great for a gathering with friends or perhaps a bit of baking? The entry to the Old Town was very impressive.

Street art

Inspiration in Childers is under foot, on the footpath. Lots of mosaic designs & rubbing possibilities, which I took advantage of.
Yes Mel, Jan & I were thankful the road opened the next day & a blue, cloudy sky accompanied us home.

Street art

When I photographed this sculpture, I thought it was street art, but now on reflection, perhaps it indicates a bicycle rack?
Alison thanks for your comment yesterday.
