Life in the freezer- days 8 and 9

It's not much fun catching a cold. I have been nursing a cough and dry throat for a few days. Keeping warm when venturing out is top priority so the big new coat goes on plus a nice warm cashmere beanie and scarf, with gloves on my hands before I even step outside into the minus conditions plus wind chill.

This is serious weather for a Queenslander used to tropical conditions!

This is the view from Bob's eight floor office. The grey clouds roll in and then get blown away to reveal blue sky once more. I am happy it is sunny even though it is cold, as I feel it would be more depressing living in grey.

At the double entry doors to the office building, three generations are rugged up and wait for the bus to arrive. They stay inside where it is much warmer and rush out when the bus pulls up. The older woman is wearing the national dress, the Deel, worn by both sexes and all ages. Hers is a bright orange, probably silk by the look of the fabric.

I think she has caught me trying to photograph her.

 

 

 

Wet weather printing

Yesterday, as Cyclone Marcia was approaching the Queensland coast, I decided I needed to print a piece of fabric I'd dyed last Saturday. As I was setting up my equipment  I discovered our back patio roof has a few more leaks and annoyingly over my print tables!

A few more buckets out to catch the drips and on with the job at hand.

The result I wanted to achieve on the dyed piece didn't happen. I think I got a bit nervous about it and forgot to play, so I ripped off another strip of plain white fabric and played. Voila! great result and better than I imagined.

Hard to tell the difference between my print table cover and the printed fabric! I'm sorry but I can't show the full result as I need it for a juried exhibition entry.

I hope Cyclone Marcia is kind to all my friends and that you, your family and pets are safe and dry.

Snow!

Last night it thundered, rained and obviously snowed. Perhaps we are in for a warmer change now.

Wet, wild weekend

It has been a weekend of wild wind and constant rain. Last night was the worst as the remnants of Cyclone Oswald passed over us. This morning we had no power, so no blogging done. A few very large trees had fallen over a main road near us and taken out the power lines. Many areas are faring far worse than us, so thinking of you all and hoping it is not as bad as 2011 floods.

I have the bits ready to assemble another quilt, this time one with rubbings and bits from the Cambodian holiday. But without power it didn't happen this morning. Will get to do a bit now!
