Coffee break

I couldn't resist this delicious Sticky Date Pudding with caramel sauce when we had coffee at Mia's Cafe, Coorparoo. A large section of the old weatherboard house is used to sell Australian & imported gifts & Moroccan furniture.

Journal covers

Thanks everyone for your congratulations on my prize mentioned in yesterday's post. Kate, I have listed the quilt as NFS at the show, but yes it is for sale. It previously toured with the STATE of the ART quilt 09 juried exhibition. For more details please contact me.

In between the quilting of the Quilt National entries, [machine quilting No 2 & hand stitching the facing on No 1] I reward myself at the end of the day with painting on pieces such as these which I'm turning into A5 size journal covers.

Second prize

I had a lovely phone call yesterday to tell me 'Anthills- Silent Cities' had received a second prize in the Professional Small Quilt category at Quilts Across Queensland at the Ekka [Royal Queensland  Show].

I have been going to the Ekka since I was a kid & love the country coming to the city for 10 days. I can remember when show bags were 50cents instead of today's prices of $10 plus!

Valentino Retrospective

Opening on August 7 is the Valentino Retrospective, an exclusive Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane exhibition which runs until November 14.

Quilt finished

Avenue of trees quilts

The Gold Coast Quilters Guild held a 1 day Quilt Festival & these are some of the tree quilts which formed an avenue. What wonderfully imaginative interpretations, shown at the 2QAQ meeting.

Morley Grainger

Morley Grainger is a narrative visual artist who gave a great talk about her art practice at a recent Queensland Quilters Quilt Study Group meeting. She focused on the recycling of materials & had a jacket made from zippers, made well before the current zipper trend. I was too slow, so sorry no photos but you can get an idea of her extensive, thoughtful work via her website.
