Ala's Garden quilt

My cousin Alena and I had fun last year rubbing some of the great brick and other textures she had in her garden in Slovakia. I brought back a piece of fabric she had worked on- her first rubbing experience and used it as inspiration for a small quilt Ala's Garden for her. I combined it with some hand dyed fabric I had, did some more rubbing, machine quilting, hand painting, added lace and was happy with the result.
Alena's rubbing is on the blue piece below the embroidered black ribbon.
Sorry for the distortion of the ipad photo, but the sides are nicely vertical!
I will try and have fun while in Hawaii!
