From these pictures you can see what a wonderful workshop we had with Leslie Gabrielse. Most of us have lots of hand stitching to complete our work but will take away ideas of techniques & ways of working to implement into our own practice. Thanks Leslie.Thursday, May 21, 2009

Leslie Gabrielse workshop

We are having a great time in the workshop, working in fabric today & putting into practice some of the techniques from day 1. That's my design on the left.
Carol Ann Waugh is well on the way to completion having begun stitching with Perle cotton today. Leslie demonstrated his hand stitching techniques. Our class of 8 has allowed for individual attention & valuable suggestions for our designs.

Jeri Riggs
When I was in New York's Westchester County I caught up with my friend Jeri Riggs who not only is a talented quilter but also a great knitter. These are some of the colourful quilts which hang in her studio.
And the many awards she has collected including the intriguing rosette made from a CD, the yellow one, for the Northern Star Quilters Challenge.Leslie Gabrielse
While I'm in Ohio I'm taking a pre-conference workshop with Leslie Gabrielse, an artist from the Netherlands who uses fabric, hand stitch & paint in his amazing work. Our 3 day workshop 'Complex Design' has seen us painting, cutting up our designs & stenciling. It has been a privilege watching Leslie demonstrate his techniques.Monday, May 18, 2009
Diane Rode Schneck
Diane Rode Schneck was the guest speaker at the Village Square Quilters meeting. She was born in Ohio & this block was featured in her early work & still makes an appearance now & then. I loved her quirky humorous quilts about cocktails & especially the 'diner' one below.
