There are so many layers of history here and it is all amazing and staggering to contemplate! A 12 euro ticket allows access to the Forum site, Palatine Hill and the Colosseum over a 2 day period, but we did it in one day instead. Had a wonderful time and walked 14.5 kilometres in all.
There are lots of bits and pieces of columns and other decorative elements from the Forum area lying around and information boards in English tell the story of each section of this massive complex, when you add the Palatine into it.
The Colosseum is awesome! Crowded with tourists but still that can't take the magnificence away. Don't know if I would have liked to watch the blood thirsty spectaculars that were put on here though.
