We have the 'black beast' Fiat 500 for transport for the next couple of weeks and have ensconced ourselves in Puglia, in the heel of Italy, in a trulli home. These conical stone dwellings are typical of the region near Martina Franca and we are at Trulli il Castagno, a great compound of refurbished trullo, which opened 7 years ago.
This is our entry and you can see the 2 trulli roofs of our kitchen area and bedroom.
The walls and ceiling are solid limestone rock from the local area. We have modern conveniences and heating, but imagine living here in the 1800's- cool in Summer but moist in the Winter apparently.
The local wild cats arrive on the doorstep when a vehicle arrives! Being on a hill we have beautiful views across the wheat fields, dotted with red poppy flowers. The cherry trees are flowering too. A bit too cold for swimming though.
