Good quilt news

My quilt Garden Life has been awarded a Highly Commended in the Light and Life,
Australian Quilts in Public Places exhibition in Victoria, Australia. I'm really happy about it as this is one of the quilts I made earlier this year using the weeds in my Summer garden as inspiration and print material.

And not bad for what began as a clean up cloth!

AQIPP 2015

Have you ever entered a quilt or 2 in an Australian Quilts in Public Places exhibition? I have, several times and even won and was acquired by the Immigration Museum in 2001. Exhibition catalogue

This lovely coffee table style book was the catalogue from the AQIPP 2013 exhibition which closed on December 21. I had pre-ordered the book as I couldn't get to the exhibition in person, so it has been a treat to see the work that was on display.

My quilt was Water Net. 

AQIPP

The Australian Quilts in Public Places exhibition opens today at The Whitehorse Art Space Melbourne and continues to December 21. This is an initiative of the Australian Quilters Association. I entered a quilt and it was selected for the exhibition which had the theme Water; Warp and Weft.

Water Net is made from silk and synthetics, yarns, beads and thread.

I enjoyed working on this as it follows on from my technique used to create the tree dress earlier in the year. If anyone is going to the exhibition and photos are allowed, please share them as I will not get to Melbourne in time to see it.

 

Water quilt

I have finally gotten back to my water theme quilt and added the element I was making, a net of wrapped cord using embroidery and crochet threads. I'm happy with the result, a detail view above. The picture doesn't show the sparkle of the metallic and rayon threads used. Now to have it photographed and enter it in AQIPP.

The next steps

The next steps in the water theme piece- I have decided to attach the created fabric front to a painted wadding background.

It was easy to stitch the 2 components together using the walking foot. I used simple wavy lines from side to side. Now I'm in the process of making machine cords for the final embellishment of the piece.

The shiny and cotton DMC threads, shown yesterday are being combined.
