Chihuly #2

Wow, amazing and wonderful and I could go on! We happily spent the day transfixed by this glass artist and his vision. Bob and I took sooooo many photos so I'll share a selection with you. But if you ever get to Seattle don't miss this.

These vessels are inspired by Native Pacific  North West baskets and weaving with the blankets in the background covering the wall.

As the rain shower cleared we got the perfect photo opportunity.

The garden plantings complement the glass plants. It is just another stunning vision from this artist dealing with light, volume and colour. The human breath transforming a simple, ancient material into the extraordinary.

 

 

Chihuly #1

We rushed into the café at the Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibition as we had skipped breakfast and didn't want to view the amazing displays on an empty stomach. The café proved to be as interesting as the rest of the building with the tabletop inserts displaying different items from Chihuly's collections. I can relate to the quote above and this space reflected just this.

I had to have a Rueben as we are leaving the US soon for Canada and after ribs and pulled pork it is a favourite.

Space Needle

The landmark towers over the Seattle skyline and is easily accessed via the fast speed elevator to the observation deck. Very windy the morning we were there but good views before the rain showers.

 

Amtrak

A new adventure for us travelling for the first time with Amtrak from historic Portland Station to Seattle, along the coastline. Unlike Italian rail stations, here there are enough seats for waiting travellers, a luggage check-in service and very civilised boarding without a mad rush.

We enjoyed the comfort of the 4 hour journey with some water view scenery along the way.

Our hotel is in the Belltown area and easy walking distance to the waterfront. We can hear sea gulls calling, when we open the window. Lots of fish available, fresh or cooked.
