The Leaf of the Party

The party is about to begin in Warwick with 10 days of celebration, jazz, textiles, food and all good things beginning July 18. First I need to dress my tree!

The long straps will be tied to the upper branches to hold the dress up. They are made from a sparkly organza. A bit hard to see, but the extra bits I stitched are also part of the frilly bits on the front and back.

This might look like a jelly fish, but it is one of four gloves for my branches. More photos of the dressed tree to come. The 10 anniversary trees are on display in the Town  Hall Foyer- hope you can drop in.

Beaded shoes

Thanks for the hat comments. I have to hope for a cold Winter in subtropical Queensland or take it to the southern, much colder city of Melbourne to wear it. It is so beautifully hand made, it reminded me of the combined practicality & beauty of these beaded shoes at the Mesa Verde Archaeological Museum in Colorado.

Francie, I have discovered it is very difficult to take a picture when wearing a hat, as one has to angle one's head, use glasses to look at the digital image & hold one's hand steady! The hat, being round, can be orientated with the spikes going in any direction for a jaunty look!

Taos jewellery

I never knew how many things you can do with corn! I didn't buy any of these necklaces as Australian Quarantine would have a fit.

Millicent Rogers who loved Taos & lived there until her death in 1953, was a transplanted local with a passion for collecting turquoise jewellery, concho belts, silver buttons etc. The fabulous museum named after her houses wonderful collections of Navajo blankets, pottery, Hispanic art & her jewellery collection.

Tierra Wools- Los Ojos

A feast of colour awaited us at Tierra Wools, Los Ojos [Los Ohos] NM & the delightful Kay was happy for us to poke around in the dyeing area & weaving studio.

The studio is keeping the tradition of weaving with Churro sheep wool & yarn is available a well as finished products. In fact there was a photo above the sales counter of young, dishy Robert Redford modeling one of their jackets. Bob, you didn't get that photo & neither did I!

Wearables at PIQF

A few nights ago I went to the fashion show where the work of 4 designers was highlighted. Barbara, this is for you, because of your request, with more photos to come, of the competition garments later.

Kayla Kennington of Portland has been a frequent award winner when Bernina had the fashion parade at Houston Festival. The one above & the next couple are her designs, made from simple square & rectangles, she told us!
