Opal Fever- PIQF

It was full house yesterday in the Opal Fever class where we put extra 'glinty' bits on our fabric & any other surface not covered! Dorothy had a brilliant background fabric & she added the floating opal design.

Francie added her own interpretation too, supervised by Brownyn. This has the added sparkle of Angelina fibres.

The lovely Ginny who stuck with me for the 3 days & is taking home some gorgeous fabric creations. Her cookies are delicious too!

Oil Stick Intensive at PIQF

A day of great discovery & play with oil paint sticks, as my full classroom of students had fun creating wonderful pieces of fabric. I think we avoided getting colour on ourselves or our bags, shoes etc & by the end of the day the walls were singing with everyone's fabric pieces. Beverley's Above.

Quilts

There are hundreds of amazing quilts to see at PIQF & I have not had the time to get around even half yet. This is a partial view of the Best of Show 'America, Let It Shine' quilted on a domestic 20 year old Bernina by Sherry Reynolds.

I enjoyed being part of the 4 person judging team assigned to the Innovative large quilt section. I selected 'Montana Tigers' by Karlyn Bue Lohrenz as my Judges Choice.

Monoprinting Magic at PIQF

As a tutor, it's very rewarding to see the work of students as it is pinned up during the day. Monoprinting Magic is the first of 3 workshops I'm presenting at PIQF [Pacific International Quilt Festival], in it's 20th year. What follows are some photos of the great work done in class.

I was very proud to walk down the aisles of the World Quilt exhibition at PIQF & see the 3 Australian booth areas displaying our entries.

Marlene King was voted Viewers Choice so her quilt 'Travels' is up front with the overall winners.

New bag

This is my finished bag, using the oil stick patterned fabric. I have put a small patch pocket on the front using fabric designed by Terrie Hancock Mangat & also added a couple of decorative elements. A velcro closure will help secure contents in this across the shoulder handbag.

Students at PIQF next month in my Oil Stick Intensive workshop will be given instructions for this bag. Hope you can join me in California or in Florida at the World Quilt Show Nov 10-12.
Ginny I think you could try the oil sticks on felt- I've not tried but a heavy hand should get colour on.

Roundel

I finished Roundel with binding using a silk/cotton blend that has a lovely sheen to pick up the metallic

paint in the print. Now to pack the quilts & post to Houston. Five weeks & counting down to take-off for Pacific International Quilt Festival - so many things to do!! 'Breathe' I tell myself.
