'Into the Cosmos' by Heather Bingham

Heather was a student in my Wholly Holes workshop, conducted at Samford Quilters Outside the Square group, about 18 months ago, so it was a real treat to see her finished work 'Into the Cosmos'.

Karuna Hospice & PPP exhibition

The talented members of the Paddo Purple Patchers have put together a wonderfully intriguing exhibition named 'Shadows' with many interpretations in cloth & mixed media. All the artwork is mounted on pre-stretched canvas. Chris Jones is happy to share her 2 pieces on my blog. The one below is from the Wholly Holes workshop.
PPP are raising money for the Karuna Hospice, a palliative care facility so if you'd like to support them go along to Gallery 159, 159 Payne Rd The Gap this weekend from 11am-4pm.

Wholly Holes workshop- ATASDA

This is the photo of the Australian Textile Arts & Surface Design Association Inc. ATASDA Queensland members who participated in the Wholly Holes workshop in August. We had a busy 2 days & lots of exciting work was produced by everyone. Look for the results at future meetings. I was so busy I didn't end up taking individual photos, sorry.

Wholly Holes workshop planned for Patches

In reply to the comments re yesterday's post Split Complementary, yes Jan, I think the plants that we both have are the survivors of the drought conditions we had last year. Cleopatra's Tears' flowers are the most delicate I've seen on a bromeliad Erica.

These are the last of the images of students work from the recent Wholly Holes workshop with the Outside the Square group at Samford. The diversity, originality & enthusiasm of students always makes this a wonderful workshop to deliver.

Wholly Holes workshop- Samford # 2

Liz & Robyn are working with oil sticks to create a unique fabric for their next design. My boxes of supplies look like I have packed everything but the kitchen sink! When you start to look for texture it is surprising what catches the eye & goes into the box.

Wholly Holes workshop- Samford

Why is the Wholly Holes workshop so popular? As a tutor I love introducing students to the paints & oil sticks & the possibilities of these mark makers. Then there's stitching on the soluble base & creating a unique piece of fabric. Combine all these elements & each design is unique.

The Outside the Square art quilters of Samford have produced many wonderful pieces in only 2 days. Work below is by Catherine, Pam & Beverley. More to come tomorrow.

Wholly Holes workshop- day 2

Day 2 of any workshop is always interesting. Students have settled into exploring, ideas are generated & acted upon & the creative interactions spark new activity round the "messy" paint & oil stick table. I love teaching Wholly Holes for all those reasons & more!

Not being a project class lets magic happen as you can see from the photos of pieces here- some are stitched, others wait for "more"!

Wholly Holes workshop

The wonderful work here is from members of the Schoolhouse Quilters group who are painting, rubbing & stitching in the Wholly Holes workshop which runs for 2 days. Thanks for sharing Meredith, Suzi, Muffin, Jeannie, Joy & Wendy. This is just the start of their original creations.

In the meantime, the Taiwan International Quilt Exhibition 2009 has finished & my quilts are on their way home. Leni Wiener was one of the international tutors who attended & you can read more about her experiences on her blog, via her website.
