Amazing work

This is a detail of the amazing work of Yuan Shan Jin, a Korean living in China. The flowers are 3D made of silk organza, folded, hand stitched to a base, further stitched to finish each one individually and composed into an enormous, stunning piece of work which is joyous and full of life.

This view gives you an idea of the size of Yuan Shan's 4 quilts. She is dressed in white and is with one of the young volunteers who guide exhibition visitors. She is a master quilter and is also one of the tutors.

At TIQE 2012

I have 3 quilts- FLOOD # 1, 2, 3 on display. We are very busy seeing and doing many things and meeting many wonderful artists from Asian countries.

New country

Today I am in a new country, a country I have not visited before, a country I am looking forward to getting to know just for a brief moment. Taiwan and Tainan City in typhoon season! Let's have an adventure together.

TIQE 2012

Today the Taiwan International Quilt Exhibition 2012 opens in Tainan City. 292 quilts from 22 countries are on display until September 9. I will be heading off next Tuesday for Taiwan as I'm one of the 5 speakers at the International Seminar on Saturday August 18.

The theme for the exhibition is Moving Water and Rivers. My friends Pat Gould and Mary Pal will also be presenters.

The 3 pieces I made relate to the January 2011 floods of Brisbane.

All  these quilts use mono prints in the central sections. I designed and stitched them in January, so it will be nice to be reacquainted with them.

Taiwan International Quilt Exhibition 2012

Sorry to only show the details from these quilts but TIQE 2012 have worked very hard to put this international exhibition together and I don't want to steal any of their thunder. Above 'Flood #2- Under Leaden Skies' and below 'Flood #3- Flotsam'. A full list of artists is on the website and there is a translate button.

All three quilts use mono printing techniques, an area I wanted to explore more of this year. Have you ever quilted with a twin needle? I haven't tried it yet, but was asked that question when the quilt above was viewed, as I deliberately wanted semi-parallel lines to replicate the lines in the print.
