Museum exhibition

This exhibition is one I came across the other week at the Queensland Museum. It was very interesting to see the various objects people were collecting, many recognisable from events in Queensland during my own lifetime.

Loved all the pineapple items. I have a pineapple teapot in my teapot collection. My collection was getting big and space was limited in one of the kitchen's we had, so I have not added to the collection. On the Sunshine Coast we had the Big Pineapple tourist attraction when I was a youngster so the paraphernalia brought back happy memories of visits to it.

The free exhibition continues until December 31.

Common Threads

This exhibition in the Brisbane Square Library is hard to find as it is not signposted and the staff had to consult their computer for the location! It is on Floor 2, on the left hand wall as you step off the escalator. Hung along the side wall, you  have to get close to students using the small tables for their studies to see the pieces which are hung along the length of the wall.

Phillipa Rooke had a couple of lovely Nuno felted scarves.

And I recognised Felicity Clarke's wonderful dimensional reef inspired work.

Common Threads

The Queensland Spinners, Weavers & Fibre Artists Ltd. have an exhibition, Common Threads underway at the Brisbane Square Library in the Brisbane CBD. On until October 31, I will be checking it out today and may have photos for you tomorrow.

Sewing velcro hangers

I have been busy making  Velcro hanger strips to be sewn to the Beautiful Australia quilts. This hanging system is needed for the Expertise Events Stitches and Crafts Shows where you will see Beautiful Australia later this year and early next year.

The covering flap keeps the hard velcro teeth from catching on everything.

When it's open it will easily stick to the hard carpeted walls for quick and easy hanging. 

Warwick's Jumpers and Jazz festival

Off to Warwick today to judge the Tree Jumper Competition. Seems that if you stand still long enough you will be yarn bombed or dressed, as was the statue in the main street.

STATE of the ART QUILT 12

The State of the Art Quilt 12 exhibition opened last night at the Pine Rivers Gallery. I'm sorry to have missed it, but you have the opportunity of seeing the exhibition as it runs until July 26. After that time it will be replaced by the State of the Art- Retrospective from July 28- August 18. The Gallery is at Unit 7/199 Gympie Rd. Strathpine with opening hours Monday- Saturday 10am-4pm.
I'm very happy to say I have 2 pieces in the first exhibition and 1 in the second.

Back from a chilly Warwick and a lovely opening night. My thanks to Gallery Director Karina Devine and her volunteer team who do a marvellous job.

Some equipment is bigger and more impressive than the indispensable measuring stick.

Leaf Song

My exhibition is titled 'Taking leaf of my senses' for good reason! It has been challenging but fun to explore new ways of using leaf prints and imagery in my work. This is an ongoing fascination for me. Above is a detail of 'Leaf Song #1' one of three hemp pieces more than 3 metres long that will hang from the ceiling in the central part of the Warwick Art Gallery July 5- August 19.

Like a piece of music the song begins quietly and builds in intensity and energy. 'Leaf Song #3' detail. I have my fingers crossed that they look as good as I am imagining!

Marion's quilts

Always lovely to see work begun in a workshop, in it's completed form. Marion was a student in my 4 day Textile Souvenirs workshop in April at the Contextart Forum in the Blue Mountains. She introduced me to feathers for printing and printed this on kimono silk. Doesn't it look wonderful surrounded by the wide charcoal border?

This is her quilt using kimono silk off-cuts and both these quilts are BIG. Thanks for sharing Marion.

Dizzy

Feeling a litle like this at the moment as I prepare for my exhibition Taking Leaf of my Senses which opens next week. I keep reminding myself to take small steps and it will all come together.
