Sydney Quilt Show

I entered two quilts into the show this year. They are both from the Seduced by the Imperfect series and are hanging on the left hand side, in good company with Kay Haerland on the right.

Sydney Quilt Show

Congratulations to all the winners and entrants in the Sydney Quilt Show. Through the wonders of modern technology I have been able to view the winners on line at the Quilters' Guild of NSW's website while sitting in my hotel room in Alaska near the Denali National Park.
The internet is not cooperating enough for me to share photos at the moment.

Surface Design

I had a lovely time in Sydney with this group of quilters from the Quilters' Guild of NSW, exploring surface design techniques. Front L-R Deborah, Pam, Anita, Denise Back L-R Sandra, Judy, Maxine, Robyn, Jo, Wailyn. Many beautiful pieces of fabric went home for further enhancement.

Club news

How do you keep track of what is going on in your quilt Guild or patchwork club? For members of Queensland Quilters Inc and The Quilters' Guild of NSW there are the publications Material Facts and The Template, as well as online information.
As I don't get to many regular meetings it is a good way to keep up to date.

Back from Sydney

Had a lovely time in Sydney despite the grey skies and drizzle. This photo was taken on the one sunny day.
Jenny Bowker's featured quilt in the Master Quilter category was a tribute to Margaret Rolfe and Australian quilters will recognise the background blocks from Margaret's books.

Sydney Quilt Show

I'm visiting the Sydney Quilt Show at Darling Harbour for the next couple of days, a mini-break talking to like minded friends and indulging in browsing stalls, thumbing books and relaxing. The Quilters' Guild of NSW is celebrating 30 years and has a new category this year for Master quilters, traditional and contemporary.
'By the Pond' is in the Masters and 'Rusty', above is in the Art quilt category. They haven't been seen in Sydney before. On Thursday June 14, 11am I'm talking about 'By the Pond'. You can also hear many wonderful quilters talk about their work each day from Wednesday to Sunday. The winning quilts can be seen on the Guild website.
I'll be back to chat on Monday.

Sydney Quilt Show #2

The Craft & Quilt Fair had a very colourful entry this year & lots of 'must haves' to buy. The 300+ quilts were amazing, showing a great variety of traditional & modern designs & some bold colour choices. The Quilters' Guild of NSW don't allow photography for blogs unless permission from the quilt maker is given. Thanks to Merelyn Pearce, the maker of 'Preston Dreaming' Bernina Best of Show, who has allowed me to include some shots of her hand appliqued, machine quilted quilt. The Guild website has images of the winning quilts.

We were asked to pin the rosettes to our quilts after the Award Ceremony.

Sydney Quilt Show

I'm visiting the Sydney Quilt Show for a couple of days, to see the quilts from members of the Quilters' Guild of NSW, chat with friends & enjoy other displays, vendors booths & the atmosphere at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour. My quilt 'Counting' has been awarded a Judges' Commendation & as I've been a quilt show entrant for the last 16 years, certificates are being awarded for that too. Sixteen years! I couldn't believe it, but I guess time flies when you're having fun.
The show continues until June 26, 9am- 5pm.

Off to Sydney

I'm flying to Sydney today for the Quilt Show which opens tomorrow. The Quilters' Guild of NSW are good at getting the winners online quickly, so enjoy browsing the site tomorrow.
Will take lots of photos of the trip to share with you.
I'm glad my 'upcycling' of a UFO has inspired you Diane.  Jan, it is hand dyed fabric bought many years ago- remember OzDyeArt in Brisbane? Sadly they closed, also many years ago.

The New Quilt 2010

The catalogue for The New Quilt 2010 arrived with an introduction by Dr Dianne Firth, the Guest Curator. Each of the 26 selected works is represented by a thumbnail of the detail shot, so I'm looking forward to seeing the work on display at the Manly Art Gallery & Museum from June 18- July 25. The New Quilt is an initiative of the Quilters' Guild of NSW.
