Burano

Burano is noted for lace production and the museum had wonderful display cabinets and cases filled with the finest quality lace made in the 1700-1900's. A school was set up to keep the techniques alive but it has now closed. Some older women were demonstrating lace making at the museum.
Burano lace is needle made lace with a paper pattern underneath. After it is stitched this template is cut away.
Most of what is for sale is machine made and imported.
