Water quilt

I have finally gotten back to my water theme quilt and added the element I was making, a net of wrapped cord using embroidery and crochet threads. I'm happy with the result, a detail view above. The picture doesn't show the sparkle of the metallic and rayon threads used. Now to have it photographed and enter it in AQIPP.

Buttons

This was on a bag brought in by a Sunnybank Quilter member for Show and Tell. The buttons were hand stitched to the heart. Obviously supplied by Duttons when the bag was bought in their shop.

Italian sojourn

With cheap European airfares on offer and more to come shortly, you may like to consider an Italian sojourn with sightseeing and a workshop also. The Abruzzo School of Creative Art are offering lots of great classes in 2014 and until December 31 there is a 20% discount on fees.
I will be teaching Textile Souvenirs from June 10-16 2014.
I will be passing on my knowledge of working in new, unfamiliar environments and techniques that I’m passionate about. They will include dyeing, sun printing, frottage, mono printing, direct printing, resist printing, layering, machine quilting and hand stitching. Colour, design and composition will be discussed in the workshop and I will work with you individually to help you with your project piece.
The 2014 courses are now on the website,Textile Souvenirs www.abruzzoschoolofcreativeart.com/sue-d

Cockatoos

The cockatoos have landed in the Myer department store! I enjoyed seeing them on various floors. Some were black cockatoos and some white and the golden emus were a nice surprise too.

Common Threads

This exhibition in the Brisbane Square Library is hard to find as it is not signposted and the staff had to consult their computer for the location! It is on Floor 2, on the left hand wall as you step off the escalator. Hung along the side wall, you  have to get close to students using the small tables for their studies to see the pieces which are hung along the length of the wall.
Phillipa Rooke had a couple of lovely Nuno felted scarves.
And I recognised Felicity Clarke's wonderful dimensional reef inspired work.
View from the library window. There are a few other free exhibitions this weekend- Beautiful Australia continues at Gallery 159, 159 Payne Rd The Gap 11am- 4pm while the Redlands Quilt Extravaganza is in Cleveland at the Entertainment Centre. Have fun!
