Ger living

My first night sleeping in a ger was at Maikhan Tolgoi tourist camp on the shores of Tsagaan Nuur [White Lake].
A ger is an ingenious construction with a central wheel supported by beams. This is the highest point and the supporting spokes come out from here & join the short curved, lower wall section. The wood burning stove is in the centre of the ger & the chimney extends out of the wheel.
The ger doors are short & you stoop as you enter. This one had carved panels- how lucky for me!
The ice lake was starting to break up, with sheets of ice on the rocky shore. Thanks for all your comments on the Mongolian posts. I'm enjoying bringing you a glimpse of the amazing experiences I've had here in such a short time.
